Monday Motivation Tips: Ways to Start Your Week Strong

You may be thinking, “Wait a minute, Mondays have never been good. How on earth can we make them great again?”. Be patient.

I would like to think that the days of the week are exactly the same, and in theory they are, aren’t they? It is an ordinary day. Why does Monday stink so much? And why does Friday have so many advantages? We need to start treating Monday with a bit more respect. And Tuesdays. But let’s talk about Mondays.

There is nothing that wakes me up better in the morning than a run. It can be a few laps around the block or something bigger, like a 5-10 mile run. Whatever form of exercise you choose, your heart rate will go up and you’ll be sweating before you’ve even had your morning coffee, and you’ll feel refreshed and energized enough to tackle Monday. Or any other day.

As with most sports, when you run your body produces endorphins, which act as a natural painkiller and induce a positive feeling throughout your body. Running not only gives you more energy, it can also reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure and improve sleep quality.

Winning Mentality

We all know that scary feeling we get when we drive into the office on a Monday morning. What is waiting for us? What did it look like at the end of last week? What tasks are waiting for us? It is important to have a clear and concise list of the tasks you need to prioritize and the tasks you need to do on your first day at work. Perhaps you can do the most unpleasant tasks on Friday and save only the more pleasant and perhaps easier ones for Monday. Be kind to yourself.

Not Working At The Weekend

Have you ever caught yourself checking your email at work on a Saturday morning while making coffee? Or worse, meeting a friend and having a moment to yourself? We have all experienced it.

It may be tempting to continue the correspondence, but what’s the point on your days off? Especially since you probably won’t (and shouldn’t) respond until you get back to the office.

If you use the weekend to relax and give yourself time off, you will improve your work-life balance and feel refreshed and ready when you get back to your desk.

Keep to Your Sleep Routine

Let’s face it. Weekends are for the living, laughing, and maybe having a glass of wine or two. Therefore, it can be very difficult to stick to your usual sleep routine between working on Friday and coming home on Monday.

However, studies have shown that getting up later on the weekends can have significant negative effects on your body and your overall health, leading to what is known as social jet lag. Even if it is only for an hour, a change in sleep rhythm can be very disruptive and lead to sleep deprivation, which can affect your general mood and emotional state, among other things.

If you manage to maintain your sleep rhythm at the weekend, just as you do during the week, Monday morning will start normally and you will have the same opportunities as on other days of the week.
